Five-letter words that contain N, counted

There are 1,846 of them here, which makes N the ninth most common letter inside a five-letter word in this list. That is a different ranking from N as an opener: a letter can be rare at the front and common in the middle.

200 of them start with N; the other 1,646 have it later. The square it occupies most often is the third (629 of them). 105 use N more than once.

1,388 of them use five different letters (ACING, ACNED, ACNES and ACORN). 136 of them contain a doubled letter (ABOON, ANNAL, ANNAS and ANNEX). The no-repeat words are the ones that test five letters for the price of one.

143 of them carry three or more vowels (ABOON, ACINI, AEONS and AGAIN). Those are the ones to reach for when the letters you have left are mostly vowels. Nine of them manage without A, E, I, O or U (HYMNS, LYNCH, NYMPH and RYNDS).
